Yuletide letter 2021
Oct. 20th, 2021 08:12 pm2021 Dear Yuletide letter
You've picked one or more of my fandoms and that says a lot about you (and me, too, I suppose).
I'm rather easy to please although I do have a few 'no-nos' that will send me running - fast - and if you've ever seen me run, it's not a pretty sight.
I tend to cringe at gratuitous graphic sex, although a well written bit of smut, and especially something appropriately sensuous or romantic is always appreciated. Likewise gratuitous gore.
Inconsistencies within a piece make my head spin. If character A likes chocolate ice cream in scene one, then vanilla shouldn't suddenly become their favorite later on. I don't mean that characters have to be entirely true to canon, because sometimes that's up to interpretation.
I frown at unusual cruelty towards even the evilest of characters, and since I don't (usually) kill off characters, even their deaths. Although I love humor, slapstick makes me squirm.
And speaking of humor, fluff is also good and so is clever banter. But I can deal with angst as well as hurt/comfort. Kids in stories can be cute or heartwarming, but overly precocious ones not so much (even though I've been guilty of including those myself).
Otherwise, feel free to express yourself and how you see the story going. These are the ones I chose this year:
La Brea
This TV show is new, so I’m not overly attached to any one character yet, but there are a few that I’d like to see your take on. Like ‘em or hate ‘em, throw them into danger and then let them overcome it. Bring on the action.
The Mysterious Benedict Society
I’ve never read the books, but I love all the kids in this show, not so much the grownups. Make me love the adults as much as the kids, yet let the kids save the day.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
This book takes liberties with the actual history that inspired it. Take a little more literary license and give me another bit of whimsey.
Kung Fu (TV 2021)
Nicky’s pretty bad-ass, but so is Althea in her own way. How about a backstory about these girls when they were younger and before Nicky was sent off to China.
